At this year’s PPMA exhibition at the NEC in Birmingham YASKAWA will be demonstrating their integrated product portfolio. On show is the new MOTOMAN MPP3 delta picking robot with integrated vision system and conveyor tracking. The entire system is controlled from the state of the art compact MOTOMAN FS100 controller. This robot delivers best in class performance in terms of speed and handling capacity in response to the industry’s need for demanding pick and place applications.

Several important performance objectives have been met in the design of this new 4-axis parallel kinematic robot.  The wrist axis of this robot is significantly stronger than in comparable models and this enables the robot to handle payloads of up to 3 kg at an unprecedented speed of 140 cycles per minute. For 1 kg payloads the robot will perform at an incredible rate of 233 cycles per minute. The high speed and handling capacity ensure the best performance when automating a picking line.  This new addition to the company’s wide range of industrial robots makes it possible for customers to specify MOTOMAN robots for initial picking and packing to end of line palletising.

The range of applications for the new MPP3 delta is enormous and ranges from picking bags, cartons, sachets and raw product in the food industry to handling wafers in the production of solar panels. The compact design of this robot allows for space saving installation directly about the conveyor system. In addition this robot can be washed down – essential for those applications where hygiene is critical.

Considerable synergies are obtained by YASKAWA’s combined market offer as customers can specify YASKAWA drives and motions products as well as robotics. These are controlled from the same technologically platform and provide ease of use coupled with high performance and reliability, which means reduced time for integration and faster installation and commission times, allowing customers to get a return on their investment faster.

From YASKAWA’s Drives and Motions Division, the new series of Σ-V (Sigma-5) servo drives are aimed specifically to the automation of production lines in the packaging industry. Their precise and fast positioning, high speed and vibration free motion control at any speed ensure the high performance customers demand so they can achieve superior motion control. YASKAWA’s portfolio comprises rotary, direct drive and linear motors so all requirements can be met by a single supplier. The extensive range of servo motors covers a power from 0.1 and 15 kW, which means that all requirements, no matter what size, can be met. YASKAWA’s drives and motions solutions match all market demands for compactness, high dynamics, high efficiency, low maintenance and outstanding reliability.

YASKAWA is the largest global supplier of AC inverters, servo drives, direct drives, machine controllers and robots. The company employs over 900 staff in Europe offering a very broad portfolio and comprehensive local services via subsidiaries in 14 countries. YASKAWA develops and produces all the key technologies and components for their own products, delivering unique system and application expertise with total product control. As a result YASKAWA products are renowned for their excellent reliability.

YASKAWA will be exhibiting at Hall 5, stand E75 at the PPMA 2011 at NEC in Birmingham from 27 – 29 September 2011.
