World Congress of Food Science and Technology Launched

World Congress of Food Science and Technology Launched

The World Congress of Food Science and Technology 2016, which will take from 21st to 25th August in Dublin, has been officially launched. The theme for this major international congress, organised jointly by the International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST) and the Institute of Food Science and Technology of Ireland (IFSTI), is ‘Greening the Global Food Supply Chain through Innovation in Food Science and Technology’.

Over 1,800 food scientists, engineers, food industry professionals, regulatory authorities and students from around the world, are expected in Dublin for this major event hosted by the Institute of Food Science and Technology of Ireland, which will facilitate the communication, exchange and sharing of knowledge at the frontiers of food science and technology.

Professor Gerry Boyle, Teagasc Director, says: “Teagasc are delighted to partner IUFoST and IFSTI to organise this congress, which will help our researchers to develop international co-operation and information exchange. Bringing the best food scientists from around the world here to Dublin, facilitates the sharing of knowledge and education. It provides an important opportunity for international food companies to engage with the food science community for mutual benefit.We are grateful to the Kerry Group, and the other sponsors of the event for their financial support for the congress.”

Some highlights of the congress will include:

  • The Inaugural IUFoST-hosted Global Food Summit

  • Over 80 sessions with distinguished international speakers
  • Over 1,400 poster presentations
  • International Food Industry Awards
  • Food research and industry exhibition
  • International Student Product Development Competition
  • Young Scientist Awards
  • A vibrant social and networking programme
  • Quiz bowl and fun run.

Prior to the official opening of the congress, IUFoST will convene the 1st Global Food Summit. The Summit will acknowledge and draw on the increasingly vital world governments and its agencies play in improving the dialogue and collaboration necessary to tackle current and future global food issues and will examine current and future practice with the aim of improving strategies towards a sustainable/waste efficient and resilient  food supply from third to first world. The key areas that will be addressed are:

  • Future food research prioritisation and funding
  • The global vision of the role of food science and technology in meeting societal and technological changes
  • Mobilisation and implementation of the global vision.
