Suppliers combine to create premium carton for English wine maker
Premium sparkling wine producer Gusbourne Estate has turned to a raft of suppliers to create new boxes
Metallic laminated board MirriNor was used and the box was printed by Bradford UV litho firm Oriel. After printing, the boxes were finished at Celloglas.
Andrew Webber, owner of the Gusbourne Estate, said: “We wanted to use a packaging material that was produced in the UK, like our wines and we were attracted to the fantastic aspects of the MirriNor material like high strength and light weight. We were also able to create a completely bespoke box design using Mirri Rainbow film and a range of decorative finishes that created an appealing and elegant box.”
MirriNor is a metallic laminated board that combines a film from Mirri with Smurfit Kappa’s T-Flute microflute corrugated board. Oriel used Color-Logic software to print the box and colours were chosen from a wide array of metallic colours shown in Process Metallic Color Charts.
Richard Ainge, chief technical officer at Color-Logic, said: “Choice of substrate is paramount when it comes to producing on-shelf appeal and the combination of the award winning Color-Logic technology with Mirri enables a brand to gain maximum impact on-shelf.”
For finishing, Celloglas incorporated low-scuff matt lamination, Celloscreen Spot Gloss High Build UV Varnish. The cartons were embossed using a brand new type of embossing die created by Lasercomb especially for micro flute materials.
Richard Gillgrass, managing director of Mirri and Celloglas, said: “The combination of MirriNor, Color-logic software and Celloglas finishes has created a completely unique result that fits the clients brief and corporate image perfectly.”
Richard Revell, technical sales manager at Smurfit Kappa added: “MirriNor has had a fantastic response so far across a number of premium packaging sectors and is particularly suited for the drinks market, due to its high strength and quality finish.”
