Smurfit Kappa wins the German Packaging prize in two categories
The dvi packaging experts annually convene a panel of judges to recognise the best packaging developments from the past year. This year, Smurfit Kappa impressed the panel with three nominations resulting in two prizes.
The Care bottle packaging design created by Smurfit Kappa in Sarstedt, Germany won in the transport packaging category. The fusion of padding and packaging stood out for the judges. Care is delivered as a singular piece with both components glued together. When preparing the packaging, the cushion automatically aligns itself. This secures the bottle for transportation by shipping service providers. The customer saves around 50% of handling costs due to this innovative construction. Earlier this year, Care also received the Goldenen Welle (Golden Wave) innovation prize.
The Stairway staged shelf packaging from Smurfit Kappa Lauenburg, Germany, was the winner in the display and promotion packaging category. It is set up automatically and instead of three parts it uses only two, as the pre-gluing stage is not necessary. That eases the burden on the environment, storage and logistics, with the customer using 32% less materials than before.
Dirk Busemeyer, Innovation Manager at Smurfit Kappa said, “We are excited about this recognition, and take it as an incentive for further work.”
