Smurfit Kappa bags two prizes at the Art of Packaging Awards
An innovative design for fruit juice called ‘Ice Box’, designed by Smurfit Kappa Poland, has won in the ‘Packaging Concept’ category at the recent Art of Packaging Awards. The same pack also took third place in the Overall Award covering all categories.
The ‘Ice-Box’ 5L Bag-in-Box® pack is a practical and attractive packaging solution that meets the needs and expectations of consumers. Not only is it easy to transport from shop to home, it also makes best possible use of space within the kitchen.
The box has been sized to fit perfectly onto most fridge shelves and the tap has been conveniently located so it can be used to pour the juice directly from the fridge, eliminating the need to remove the pack for use.
It is also possible to add paper cups as an accessory, maximising convenience and making it ideal for on-the-go consumption. The colourful cups are the only strong colour on the packaging, subconsciously suggesting the colour of fruit from which the juice was made.
The Ice-Box outer pack is made of corrugated board, a recyclable and renewable resource, while the minimalistic print underlines the ecological design of the product. When two of the packages are placed next to each other, the graphic elements depicting apples form a larger graphic. An additional feature is a three-dimensional cut-out of the word ‘PURE’, to demonstrate the ecological purity of the packaging and of the pure juice inside.
“This product was developed in close cooperation with our client – we wanted to find the optimal solution in terms of economy and ergonomics. Ice-Box is innovative and unique and was created in the Experience Centre that opened last year in Konin, Poland. We are very happy that it has won this award and proves that Smurfit Kappa’s model of cooperation with clients – based on seeking the best solutions and developing them from scratch – yields results,” said Bogdan Orzechowski, General Manager of Smurfit Kappa Poland, Konin and Drezdenko branch.
