Rexam Food Containers have recently started supplying French seafood specialist, Saupiquet, with high-barrier plastic containers for an exciting new range of ambient tuna salads. Saupiquet is a leading brand in the French canned tuna market and is also well established in Germany. The characteristic tenderness of its tuna combined with product and packaging innovations satisfy consumers’ desire for flavour and convenience.

‘’We wanted our new range of salads to have high shelf-impact and to convey the quality of the product, so the choice of the modern, white plastic Rexam bowl was an easy one to make’’ said Lionel Caillaud, head of Research and Development at Saupiquet.

The Rexam stock 99mm diameter bowls have been produced using Rexam’s unique Rotary ThermoForming (RTF) technology. The containers, formed in the melt-phase so there is no in-built stress, have superior retort and barrier performance. The bowls are sealed with easy-peel metal ends on an existing can-filling line and are processed through a conventional retort. The containers are decorated with high-gloss shrink sleeves providing vibrant shelf-appeal and the packs also feature in-mould labelled lids with a fork attached for consuming the contents ‘on the go’.

Rexam’s European Sales and Marketing Director, Nick Brewin, said: ‘’We are delighted to be working with such a well-known and respected company as Saupiquet and to see our products on French supermarket shelves. We look forward to helping companies such as Saupiquet grow their market positions and develop tomorrow’s packs for high-quality, ambient convenience foods. Our stock range of retort bowls and trays is ideally suited to this objective.’’
