Record Entries to International Cheese Awards 2010
More than 3,000 cheese makers have registered their produce for this year’s International Cheese Awards, creating a world record for entries to any cheese show. The International Cheese Awards 2010 is in its 113th year and is the biggest event of its kind, featuring around 600 producers and more than 60 trade stands.
It will take place in Dorford Park, Nantwich, on Tuesday, July 27 (judging and trade day) and Wednesday, July 28 (open to the public as part of the Nantwich Agricultural Show). The deadline for entries has been extended to capitalise on the heightened interest in this year’s event.
The wide range of categories covers products from mild UK cheddars through to best goats’ cheeses and categories specifically for international cheeses. There is also a new section for this year aimed at retailers.
All proceeds from the awards go to charity. Last year a blue stilton from the Cropwell Bishop Creamery near Nottingham was crowned Supreme Champion, while a gruyere from Von Muhlenen in Switzerland was the Supreme Champion Overseas.
Around 30,000 visitors attend the International Cheese Awards each year. Show sponsors include Waitrose, Asda, Emmi, Medeghini, Avilton Foods, Bradbury & Son, Cathedral City, The Co-operative Food, Tesco, Wyke Farms, Fayrefield Foods and First Milk.
