Product Launches Containing Natural Sweeteners Triple
The number of product launches tracked by Innova Market Insights in the first half of 2012 containing one or more natural sweeteners (includes: Agave Syrup/Nectar, Palm Sugar, Stevia, Monk Fruit) has more than tripled compared to the corresponding period in 2009. Nearly 60% of all products tracked with natural sweeteners had one or more “passive health” claims (eg “low,”) and 17% were positioned on a “natural” platform.
Analysis of the global product launches also revealed that soft drinks is the main application for natural sweeteners.
The ingredients are also finding applications in bakery, cereals and confectionery. The biggest growth is reported for the sugar & sweeteners market, where Stevia is already well established and Agave Syrup, Palm Sugar and Monk Fruit are entering the ‘natural table top sweeteners’ category.
