Parkside’s Steam microwavable packaging aiming to reduce portion sizes
Packaging manufacturer Parkside (Normanton, UK) took home bronze in the food category of the Starpack Industry Awards for its flexible self-venting steam bag, Parkscribe Steam, for frozen vegetables.
Rivaling existing packaging formats in the convenience foods market, the novel pack is a hassle-free, flexible microwavable pack taps into the consumer demand for convenient cooking solutions. The food-safe pack can be manufactured with a broad range of compartments and laser-scribed opening options, providing retailers and brand owners ultimate flexibility.
Paula Birch, Sales Director at Parkside, said: “Convenience is one of the fastest growing markets and we’re delighted that the judges recognized our innovative solution as a worthy award winner in the food category.”
“The pack is just one of the Parkscribe family of cook ready solutions that answers the consumer need for convenience. A stand out feature of this particular solution is its self-venting capabilities, created by laser-scribing technology. The consumer can now cook frozen vegetables in the microwave without having to burst, pierce or open the pack beforehand.”
Parkscribe Steam is cost effective as it can be retrofitted on to standard existing packaging lines, removing the need for investment in additional machines. It also has no impact on line efficiency and does not require an increase in materials usage, having a positive impact on the environment.
