Packaging Automation Helps Burton’s Biscuits Develop a New Concept ‘Snap and Go’ For Cadbury Chocolate Fingers
The ‘Snap & Go’ packs are available in packs of 4x31g PP trays with complementary lidding films that have been created to tap into the portioned snacking market, whilst offering portion control features for consumers and strong on-shelf aesthetics for retailers.
PA worked closely with Parkside Flexibles and Coveris to develop a tray and film combination to offer a one process heat sealing solution using pre perforated tray and film eliminating the need for additional, costly machinery to perforate the pack after being sealed.
PA played a fundamental role with the development of the new pack concept, producing samples for Burton’s in PA’s fully equipped trials kitchen facility at its headquarters in Knutsford, Cheshire.
Burtons purchased a high speed, inline, fully electric tray sealing machine capable of sealing up to 60 packs per minute, 17 cycles per minute atmospherically. Featuring PA’s Powerdrive™ technology, the SL4 operates without using any compressed air, therefore offering savings of up to 90% of the running costs of conventional pneumatically operated tray sealers. This enables food producers to demonstrate a real commitment to environmental issues, whilst delivering a competitive operating cost.
The machine is servo driven including the film feed and rewind system which helps give greater control and accuracy over the film passing through the machine which avoids film snaps and hits the correct position each time for the registered film and stay within tolerance for film tracking.
