The European Commission has approved the addition of one new product name to the register of Protected Geographical Indications (PGI). From Germany, Flönz (PGI) is a blood sausage made according to traditional methods.

‘Flönz’ is an important element of the annual North Rhine-Westphalia carnival celebrations, and is the main ingredient of the traditional dishes ‘Kölsch Kaviar’ (Cologne Caviar) and ‘Himmel und Äd’ (Heaven and Earth). This new denomination will be added to the list of over 1,350 products already protected.
