Nestlé Waters Backs Ethiopian Water Brand
A new Nestlé Waters joint venture with the owners of an Ethiopian bottled water brand will support sustainable economic growth in the country and meet rising local demand for bottled water.
As a result of the investment, local people will have improved access to safe drinking water. Abyssinia Springs is bottled in the town of Sululta near Addis Ababa, an area with high average annual rainfall. Nestlé Waters will closely monitor local aquifers and watersheds to ensure that operations there remain sustainable.
Nestlé Waters has worked with local people and NGOs to plan how it will contribute to social and economic development in the area. For example, by helping young Ethiopians develop entrepreneurial skills.
Ethiopia has almost 100 million inhabitants and a fast-growing, dynamic economy. This joint venture underlines Nestlé’s commitment to investing in Africa, and follows the recent news that it will build a SFr25 million factory in Nigeria.
