Natra to source 100% certified cocoa by 2020
Spanish-based chocolate and cocoa ingredients firm Natra has committed to sourcing 100% certified cocoa by 2020.
The firm also plans to acquire all its palm oil from sources “compatible with the survival of the rainforest” by the same date as well as pledging to eliminate trans fats and use only natural aromas.
Cocoa accounts for 36% of the company’s raw material volumes behind only sugar. Natra sources its cocoa from Africa and South America.
The announcement came in the firm’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) report published this week, where it also pledged to work in closer collaboration with organizations working with people in cocoa-growing communities such as SOS Children and Save the Children.
Natra is registered with or is a member of Fairtrade International, UTZ Certified and Rainforest Alliance.
