Maersk Line, the container shipping arm of Denmark’s AP Moller-Maersk, was the biggest winner, with a $2.1bn fixed-price contract described by the US Department of Defence as “indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity” for international ocean and intermodal distribution services. The contract covers worldwide operations, the defence department said, and will be completed by August 31, 2013.
APL has won a contract on similar terms for $1.7bn.
The next biggest winners were Virginia-based Farrell Lines, with a contract worth $565m, and New Jersey based American Roll-On, Roll-Off Carrier, a unit of closely held American Shipping and Logistics Group, with a contract worth $553m.
