Klöckner Pentaplast Introduces New PET-Based Technology
As part of the Klöckner Pentaplast’s consistent effort in anticipating customer needs and developing innovative solutions, the company will introduce its newly developed PET-based technology for yogurt packaging clikPET at Propak Africa 2016 in Johannesburg (South Africa).
clikPET embodies full polystyrene functionality, complemented by excellent gas and water vapour barrier properties, superior transport shock-resistance and the ability to bend and click. This achieves increased shelf-life up to 10 days, avoids cup breakage during distribution, helps the customers to reduce costs in a competitive environment – and to meet the demands of the consumer. Visitors who want to learn more about clikPET will find Klöckner Pentaplast at booth 7A7 from 15 – 18 March.
Consumers around the world expect natural and healthy products as well as convenience and a fresh, indulgent and appetizing appeal. With regard to these trends, it is very often the packaging that makes the difference: it has to protect its content and not carry potential health risks in itself. At the same time it has to offer innovative design solutions and innovation in serving – such as multi-packs and multi-chamber packs which are preferred for greater consumer interaction and engagement.
“Competition in the dairy industry is fierce. That’s why customer orientation is key”, explains Rainer Schlicht, Group Director Development Packaging & Specialties EMEA and Asia. “We need to walk in our customers’ shoes, anticipating what they need and desire in dairy tomorrow. This helps us to develop innovative solutions, such as clikPET, today that offer our customers a substantial competitive edge for the market of tomorrow.”
Benefits for customers along the value chain
“We are proud of having developed a product that relies on Klöckner Pentaplast’s well-proven technologies and makes it easy to serve consumer preferences such as the “bend and click” opportunity for more convenience at the same time,” Klöckner Pentaplast’s Rainer Schlicht, Group Director Development Packaging & Specialties EMEA and Asia explains. “Allowing a longer self-life as well as avoiding breaking cups during distribution the new innovation contributes to Klöckner Pentaplast’s support of the initiative SAVE FOOD”, Schlicht continues. clikPET can be processed on usual FFS lines without investments. Additionally, the new product supports building up brand values since it allows customers to develop an attractive packaging design according to the brand’s and product’s benefits.
Stuart Ball, Director Marketing, Packaging & Specialties, EMEA and Asia at Klöckner Pentaplast concludes, “clikPET offers new possibilities for packaging and product innovation in the yogurt market. The PET based alternative to polystyrene offers opportunities to drive reduced total cost of ownership (TCO) whilst changing consumer perception with brand differentiation in a competitive environment.”
