Kern and Hugo Beck unveil new pack system to aid online retail firms
Packaging machinery specialists KernPack and Hugo Beck have launched new software and packing kit to help online retail specialists
According to the firms, the new system, called Intelligence Logistics Packaging Solution (ILPS), has been designed to combine state of the art packaging and mailing technologies in a single system targeted at high volume, complex packaging operations within the home shopping, catalogue and internet retail market sectors where high volume manual labour is currently the only and costly option.
The system has an ability to provide an end to end packaging process, KernPack said. The system is linked up with Hugo Beck’s packing kit.
ILPS is a file based solution that integrates within existing customer WMS software systems to automate the packaging process through the use of automated reading, printing, inserting and packaging systems for the processing of customer orders.
2,000 items per hour
The firm said that the Kern PackFactory software suite ensures that customer orders are processed efficiently with products being read, tracked and matched with on-line printed packing notes.
Advertising material inserts are automatically selected and added while bagging and matched address labels are applied downstream. Physical packing includes wrapping, addressing and scanning at a rate of up to 2,000 items per hour.
Kern general manager Pete Jolley said: “ILPS has the ability to deliver huge benefits to the customers, both in terms of efficiencies and cost-savings.
“We believe it has the power to revolutionise packaging operations for home shopping and internet retailers, particularly those requiring quick turnaround from order to despatch where high level manual labour is currently the only option. In many scenarios we’d expect customers to experience ROI within 18 months.”
