The food industry is subject to stringent quality requirements and hygiene regulations, which can only be met by a secure packaging process. If defective or incorrect packages end up at retail, reputations can be damaged considerably, making a reliable and comprehensive final packaging control ever more necessary.

SEALPAC, a leading manufacturer of high-tech thermoformers and traysealers, now presents an innovative system for packaging inspection. With PacInspect, available in three different versions, visual inspection can be combined with mechanical pressure testing to achieve accurate results that exceed any other solution in the marketplace.

Multiple sensors for double security

The new dual-inspection system stands for final packaging control with multiple sensors. PacInspect reliably checks sealed packages by combining various optical and mechanical control steps. The mechanical control module uses special software to analyze the results of the pressure test, which measures the vibration of the top film on the pack to determine the durability and integrity of the seal.

The visual check is carried out by means of an innovative neural network technique with multiple cameras, which enables a digitalized image of the sealing edge that is calculated and evaluated by using the latest image processing technology. In this way, PacInspect immediately recognizes overhanging materials, deformed packs and shifted prints. In addition, air bubbles, food residues and other contaminations on the sealing edge, as well as tiny holes in the top film, are easily detected. The system achieves highest accuracy, even at multi-colour labels and printed films.

Three versions – for all requirements

PacInspect has the appropriate solution for each occasion. Whether it just concerns visual inspection of the film, seal and label from above, a combination with mechanical inspection of the sealing edge, or a supplementary optical label inspection from below – the system offers three versions with additional options such as barcode scanning and OCR reading. All three versions have a compact design, can easily be integrated into existing lines and will inspect up to 200 packs per minute. Owing to their sophisticated, hygienic design, optimal conditions for cleaning and user-friendly maintenance are created.
