The European Commission has approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, the acquisition of sole control over the NESTEA business, in the European Economic Area except Spain, Portugal and Andorra, by Nestlé. NESTEA branded ready-to-drink tea business is currently operated by Beverage Partners Worldwide, a full-function joint venture between Nestlé and The Coca-Cola Company.
The Commission concluded that the proposed acquisition would raise no competition concerns because Nestlé already had joint control of the business and there are very limited overlaps between the activities of the companies. The operation was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.
