ESDT Producing Bespoke Spray Drying Plant For Cheese Company
European Spraydry Technologies has been awarded the contract to supply Knolton Farmhouse Cheese with a new purpose-designed spray drying facility for the production of powdered dairy powders at its Wrexham Farm factory.
This two-stage drying plant will be housed within its own special building that will include wet feed preparation systems, dry powder storage, packaging equipment and warehousing. A robust ‘tall form bustle’ dryer with an evaporative capacity of 1100kg per hour will provide the flexibility to produce multiple dairy products.
Inclusion of a secondary ESDT multi-function vibratory fluid bed within the design scope gives added system functionality, allowing products to be exposed to further drying, cooling, chilling and agglomeration where required.
Fully Automated Process
The fully automated process can be controlled from a centralised HMI with local control access on the plant and may be started and stopped automatically or in manual mode. An easy operator friendly touchscreen HMI allows the process to be operated with minimum staffing.
Dried powder is conveyed to storage silos before packaging by a fully automated packing line. Provision has also been made within the design for transportation of the finished powder to bulk tankers.
Having many safety features, the dryer’s chamber is manufactured with a torispherical head for enhanced vessel strength and explosion relief provided by profiled relief panels. Fire hazard protection is provided by a deluge system fed by retractable nozzles. The system is cleaned and sterilised with a bespoke skid-mounted CIP system.
Knolton Cheese has been manufacturing award winning cheese for over 70 years. The new processing area will greatly enhance production facilities in Wrexham.
European SprayDry Technologies has been supplying bespoke spray drying systems to the dairy markets for many years. Machines come in many sizes, the latest models to be introduced are a fully operating pilot scale dryer with falling film evaporator, a multi-stage tall form bustle pilot spray dryer, integral and vibratory fluid beds.
