Doctor Who Replaces Birds Eye’s Captain for 50th Anniversary
Captain Birds Eye is the signature icon for the fish fingers, but there may be a new Captain in town.
On a special pack of fish fingers, Doctor Who, aka Matt Smith, has taken the Captain’s place. But Birds Eye fans need not worry – it is only a temporary move.
Not officially endorsed by the BBC, Birds Eye created the novelty packaging to commemorate the first ever “National Fish Fingers and Custard Day” on April 3.
Fish fingers and custard are the favoured food of the Doctor’s eleventh incarnation. As fans of the long-running television series will know, Matt Smith’s Time Lord sampled the unusual snack in “The Eleventh Hour”: his debut episode originally broadcast back in 2010, on April 3.
But don’t go rushing to your local supermarket just yet – only one bespoke pack has been produced, which has been sent to Matt Smith himself. He need only buy custard now, because Birds Eye have also sent him a years supply of fish fingers.
