Diageo to Cut Irish Jobs
As part of a wider restructuring of its European operations, Diageo is reviewing its operations in Ireland, where it employs 1,800 people. The drinks group is reported to be planning to cut jobs at its support functions and marketing wing as it moves to reduce its labour costs in Ireland.
“Diageo is fully committed to Ireland, and has very significant operations here that are an essential element of our company’s operations globally, However we do need to make changes and deliver greater efficiencies in some of the support functions of the business,” comments John Kennedy, managing director of Diageo Ireland. “These changes, which are being carried out across Europe, follow months of careful analysis and consideration.”
He stresses that “the changes are absolutely essential to ensure that Diageo has a competitive and sustainable business in Ireland.”
