Food sector construction specialist Chalcroft has marked the halfway point in a 56-week project at the creamery that produces the Ambrosia Custard and Rice                                                    

The project, on behalf of Premier Foods at Lifton, Devon, includes constructing an extension to the existing factory, carrying out infrastructure works and managing the installation of new plant and process equipment.

Chalcroft operations director Paul Morley said: ”We are now halfway through the project at the Ambrosia Creamery, with around 40 of our team on site at any one time. This a highly-complex project that is being undertaken in a live environment so our experience and expertise is proving to be of real value.”

The extension includes the construction of a mezzanine floor to house process equipment, while the infrastructure works involve installing new high and low voltage power supplies and power distribution. In addition, white-walled rooms are being created to house the process equipment.

David Breese, who is managing the project on a day-to-day basis for Chalcroft, commented: ”The main focus for us is to ensure that the work we are carrying out does not in any way affect the production of the much-loved Ambrosia products. We have therefore implemented a series of measures to ensure that operations continue to run smoothly.”

Deliveries of construction materials to the site have been carefully programmed, and specialist screens have been erected to safely separate construction work from food production. Chalcroft has its own Food Projects team to cater for construction projects in the sector, and the company can name a number of high-profile food manufacturers among its client base.
