Clerici-Sacco acquires culture producer CSL from Granarolo
Culture and enzyme producer Clerici-Sacco has acquired the culture producer CSL from Granarolo.
Through this acquisition the new born group says that it aims to consolidate, leverage and create value from joint competences and skills and to create a new centre of excellence in life sciences, where innovative solutions will merge with the experience of more than 140 years of supporting food culture through delivering cultures and enzymes.
CSL, established in 1948, specialises in thermophilic cultures for dairy applications, such as fermented milks and its typical Italian cheese type range and will, said the company, be a great addition to the existing portfolio of Clerici-Sacco.
“The Clerici-Sacco Group is ranked as one of the foremost players in the starter culture development and production and with this acquisition we will be no. 3 in the world on thermophilic cultures,” said Per Pedersen, B. D. Director.
CSL is also said to have a valuable collection of unique strains of lactic acid bacteria.
For the production of probiotics, CSL has a GMP pharmaceutical approved facility. Together with CSL, Clerici-Sacco therefore believes that it gains a great opportunity to consolidate its strategic penetration into the pharmaceutical/nutraceutical segment on a global scale.
“Synergistic effects will also come through merging and simplifying the two culture portfolios into one,” said Martino Verga, CSO. “And, naturally, there will be benefits by changing over to the most optimized production conditions from either company.”
