Construction company Chalcroft has once again been awarded the RoSPA Gold Award for Occupational Health and Safety.

According to RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents), the Gold Award winners must be able to “demonstrate that they have achieved a very high level of performance, demonstrating well developed occupational health and safety management systems and culture, outstanding control of risk and very low levels of error, harm and loss”.

Todd Hallam, Chalcroft’s EHS Director, commented: “Significant appreciation goes out to all employees, contractors and suppliers that have put in the continual effort to improve the safety culture and attitude within the business to ensure the safe management of our sites and our operations.

“In particular, I would especially like to thank our Site Managers and Supervisors for their work in ensuring the safe management and control of contractors and activities on site and addressing hazards and controls in a proactive manner. Their work, with the support of senior management and the EHS Department, has resulted in the lowest employee and contractor injuries reported in the last seven years.”

Chalcroft, which also secured the Gold Award last year, takes its commitment to health, safety and the environment seriously for all its operations and activities and the creation of an Integrated Management System and compliance to OHSAS18001 this year is testament to work that the EHS Department has put in.

Future developments, and as part of the company’s overall continual improvement strategy, include the implementation of a Behavioural Safety Programme, the Environmental ISO14001 standard and to achieve the 100 per cent Carbon Neutral certification as well as working directly with external organisations such as the HSE and the UK Warehousing Association to improve standards and meet compliance across the industry.
