Carbon metric waste data to be launched next month
Data showing the carbon impact of treatment of municipal waste will be released this November, for the first time
The figures will come out alongside local authority waste management data and will provide details of the national carbon performance of recycling and other waste management activities in England, according to media reports.
This scheme was initially unveiled in the Government’s Review of Waste Policy in 2011, where the Government claimed that a carbon metric system would assist in ascertaining the environmental impact of different options for treating waste.
According to letsrecycle.com, the figures will be released by the Government’s municipal waste reporting system, WasteDataFlow, and will aim to assist councils in selecting waste management techniques with the lowest carbon impact.
The Scottish Government has already committed to a carbon metric system to measure the waste performance of each of its local authorities, and this will come into place in 2013.
