Busch takes a mature approach to service
Leading vacuum pump manufacturer Busch is providing a comprehensive service package to one of the UK’s best known dairy produce specialists, Dairy Crest, including the manufacture of its popular Cathedral City cheese brand.
Busch’s engineers provide regular service to a range of vacuum pumps, including three Busch R 5 rotary vane products and seven Busch booster pumps on the ring main system which supplies vacuum to Multivac and Supervac machines.
The Multivac line produces Cathedral City sliced and thick sliced mature and lighter cheese, with the Supervac used for the 2.5kg and 5kg deli block line. The majority of these cheese products are destined for leading UK supermarket delicatessen counters and also includes Cathedral City mature and extra mature as well as Dairy Crest’s Davidstow Cheddar cheese range.
Mark Yates, after sales director for Busch (UK) Limited, said: “A well planned and regular service contract using skilled personnel brings a wide range of benefits to customers, but probably most important is the peace of mind it provides to production and engineering managers. We have been working with Dairy Crest for several years now at a number of their sites and believe this is an excellent example of how a service contract should operate.
“In addition to maximising uptime, vacuum equipment that is regularly and properly serviced operates so much more efficiently, resulting in increased plant productivity and with energy prices continuing to rise, also helps to keep running costs to a minimum.
“Budget planning and control is straightforward with a fixed cost service contract. Most importantly, our customers can also be confident that any spares used are genuine manufacturer sourced products and not inferior quality counterfeits.”
Chris Lowe, engineering manager for Dairy Crest Pre Pack in Frome, said: “The importance of ensuring we have continuous and efficient operation of our vacuum packaging system is something that cannot be underestimated.
“We rely on the service provided by Busch’s engineers and their knowledge and expertise is extremely helpful to us. In addition to the quality of maintenance and service they give, they also offer useful advice on other solutions to help us to increase our operational efficiencies.”
Busch is the global market leader for vacuum and low pressure pumps for a wide range of applications, including food and packaging, and offers a comprehensive product portfolio. As a pioneer in vacuum packaging, this year (2013) Busch is marking its 50 year anniversary by celebrating half a century of continuous quality, innovation and service to become the premier supplier of vacuum and over pressure equipment.
