English Midlands-based Bakery Products has acquired Woodhead Bakery and 11 of its retail outlets from the administrators. Bakery Products is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Haldane Retail Group, which owns a number of supermarkets trading under three separate fascias – Haldanes Stores, Haldanes Express and UGO.

The Scarborough-based Woodhead bakery and shops business makes a good fit for the existing Haldane Retail Group portfolio. It offers total vertical integration which will see the bakery supply, in due course, all Haldane Retail Group stores commencing with the initial 20 UGO stores.

Woodhead’s long-standing managing director, Phil Davis, has been appointed managing director of Bakery Products and will take full responsibility for the management of the bakery.

The Haldane Retail Group was founded in 2009 and was the first mid-size supermarket chain to open in the UK for nearly 30 years. The group now employs over 1300 people and comprises 44 stores in Scotland and England.
