Amcor invests £1.3m in UK site
Amcor is investing £1.3m in one of its UK facilities including installing a new production line that will help to safeguard 53 jobs.
The firm was aided by the award of £182,000 from UK economic development organisation Britain’s Energy Coast.
The Salterbeck plant produces printed packaging for the snacks and confectionary market and plastic film for cereal liners.
Investment will be made in a new production line for plastic film, with advanced layer technology, to meet market demand for superior food safety, which will safeguard 53 jobs in the process.
Other funding
Britain’s Energy Coast also invested £50,000 in Taste of the Lakes, an artisan smokehouse and makers of sausages and dry cured bacons.
Maryport-based Taste of the Lakes has secured the funding to expand production facilities for a range of smoked meat and fish products, as part of a wider £154,000 investment by the company.
The investment will be made in additional plant, refrigeration facilities and automated equipment to make production more efficient and to develop new products.

‘Helping to create six new jobs’
“For every pound we’ve invested a further six of private sector investment is being unlocked, helping to create six new jobs and protect a further 56.”
The Investing in Business programme, from Britain’s Energy Coast, uses £5.6m of funding from the Government’s Regional Growth Fund and a further £1m from the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) to help companies grow and create and safeguard jobs.
Amcor has refused to comment on the details of the investment.
