Ambient, chilled and FMCG supply chain specialist, Fowler Welch, now UK’s sole transport provider of Jersey Royals
The seasonal operation, managed out of Fowler Welch’s Hilsea consolidation centre, has just entered its peak with some 1,500 tonnes of potatoes on the move every day across the entire season. The Jersey Royal Company will produce a total crop of 25,000 tonnes this year.
Fowler Welch is consolidating and delivering Jersey Royals to almost all the UK’s major supermarket retailers, plus secondary manufacturing sites and wholesale markets.
Fowler Welch has been able to secure this important new business through the demonstration of a flexible supply chain offering tailored to the needs of the customer. From harvest to final delivery, the Jersey Royal Company knows it has a fully optimised distribution system to its customers right across the UK.
“It’s great that we have been able to build on the business we have done in the past with Jersey Royals, and secure their entire UK distribution volumes,” said Jonathan Lee, Business Development Manager at Fowler Welch, “The volume peaks during May and June, and, once again, we have been able to demonstrate our capability in coping with the peaks and troughs of delivering fresh and chilled retail volumes.”
The Jersey Royal enjoys EU protection of designation of origin. The Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) is an official recognition granted by the EU to protect the product as it is produced in its country of origin.
