Ahlstrom injects €7m into French packaging arm
Materials supplier Ahlstrom is investing €7m into its French based Stenay plant, which produces one-side coated papers for flexible and label packaging for the food and drink industry.
The investment will play a key role in responding to the current market needs for low-grammage papers, said Jan Lång, Ahlstrom CEO and president.
The company plans to lower grammage grades by 15 per cent, down to 50 grams per square metre, Patrick Jeambar, executive vice president of Label and Processing told FoodProductionDaily.
Enhanced quality
This investment will also have a highly positive impact on the overall quality of the production output and performance characteristics at the customers’ end, said the company.
Improvements to be made to the papers include evenness of the product and also better sheet quality and sheet formation, said Jeambar.
“As a leading player, we have been continuously improving our offering in flexible packaging and metalized labels,”
said Lång.
The Stenay plant is part of Ahlstrom’s Label and Processing Business Area, which operates a total of six production sites in France, Germany, Italy and Brazil.
The investment is planned to be completed in mid-2012.
