Aegg invests in process to make injection moulded dessert pots
Aegg Creative Packaging has invested €1.4 million in a process to produce injection moulded 140ml plastic pots for desserts, and the packaging option has been adopted by a major brand for a range of products available in supermarkets throughout the UK.
Initially, Aegg designed, built and project managed the build of a single cavity tool with trial parts manufactured from the soft single cavity tool. A full detailed analysis, including surface roughness and dimensions, was undertaken using, among others, the latest CNC machines. A number of trials were then carried out on site at the client’s facility to test the parts. The trial was successful and Aegg moved to full mould design and build of 16 cavity tools from a number of top European toolmakers.
Due to the volume of product required, Aegg designed the bespoke automation and packaging solution for its client at the chosen manufacturing site, which included a dedicated manufacturing cell within an already established BRC Grade A facility. Aegg committed to two new packaging-specified injection moulding machines and all necessary ancillaries, totalling €1.4 million of investment, enabling the product to run full time throughout the working week, with weekend back-up in event of any volume peaks.
