ABP UK has further shown its support and investment in the future of the meat industry, by donating almost half a tonne of meat to the butchery competition at this year’s The Skills Show.

The show, which takes place on the 19-21 of November at the NEC in Birmingham, provides a great opportunity for young adults to gain hands on experience of a vast array of vocational skills and learn about the resulting & varied career paths.

The butchery competition tests entrants’ skill, innovation, creativity, presentation, work ethic, method and approach to tasks, carcass and primal utilisation, waste and safe and hygienic working practice. Finalists will be required to compete in five tasks at the final during the show, which will be carried out and judged in front of a live audience – and include sausage making, ready to eat products, barbeque display, kitchen ready products, boning, seam butchery and display.

When the opportunity arose to support the butchery competition, we knew straight away that we wanted to be involved given our place in the meat industry. We are also exhibiting at the show as well as taking part in the Spotlight Talk, so we hope to engage with lots of young people over the course of the weekend.
