Abbott’s Irish Nutrition Plant Wins Overall Award in Engineering
Abbott’s nutritional facility in Cootehill has won the overall Engineers Ireland MEETA Award for excellence in engineering maintenance. MEETA, the Irish Maintenance and Asset Management Society, promotes best practice in all aspects of maintenance and asset management, and commended Abbott on the development and implementation of a lubrication excellence programme at the plant in Cootehill.
The Cootehill facility produces a wide range of science-based infant formulae for international markets, to support the healthy growth of infants. Lubrication maintenance is especially important in production facilities that manufacture food products, because of the extensive washing of equipment, the extreme variations in temperatures and mechanical wear and tear.
This programme, implemented by the team in Cootehill, examined all aspects of lubrication within the site, and developed a series of steps and actions to improve lubrication management, promote best practice and improve overall equipment efficiency.
Alan Magovern, Site Director in Cootehill, says: “Processing equipment, that is not sufficiently maintained, has the potential to impact very negatively on the operations of our site. We are constantly striving to achieve operational excellence in every aspect of our business, and this award is a testament to the efforts of the plant maintenance team, to seek out every opportunity to improve upon the great work they do.”
