Anheuser-Busch InBev has completed its previously announced sale of its Australian subsidiary, Carlton & United Breweries, to Asahi Group Holdings. The transaction is valued at Au$16 billion (US$11 billion) in enterprise value.

As part of this transaction, AB InBev has granted Asahi Group Holdings rights to commercialise the portfolio of AB InBev’s global and international brands in Australia. Substantially all of the proceeds from the divestiture of the Australian business will be used by AB InBev to pay down debt.

The divestment will also help AB InBev to accelerate its expansion into other fast-growing markets in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region and globally.
