Nestlé will invest €37 million in the next few months at its Nescafé soluble coffee facility at Girona in Spain. The investment will be used for the renovation of a soluble coffee production line, with the incorporation of advanced technology allowing for a 20% increase in production capacity, resulting in the creation of between 15 and 20 jobs.

After the renovation, the factory will expand from two to three lines for soluble coffee production. In 2019, the Girona site is expected to produce 38,000 tonnes of soluble coffee, a significant part of which will be destined for export to markets in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.

The technological advances incorporated into the renewed line will allow for the manufacture of products with new textures, more aroma and greater creaminess, as well as production of the company’s premium soluble coffees and Nescafé Classic.

Between 2015 and 2017, Nestlé has invested €102 million in the soluble coffee facilities in Girona. The Nestlé factory in Girona, which has been operational since 1968, encompasses the Nescafe soluble coffee factory and green coffee decaffeination, as well as the Nescafé Dolce Gusto capsule production plant, which came on stream in 2009.

The factory annually processes 85,000 tonnes of green coffee, more than 1% of the world’s coffee production. At present, the Girona factory employs 750 people and exports 75% of its production to a total of 70 countries worldwide. Nestlé has invested more than €370 million in its facilities in Girona since 2007.
