From November 29th to December 1st more than 30 members[1] of the Roundtable of Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) will be present at the key industry event Food Ingredients Europe which will be held in Paris, France.

Food ingredients Europe is the global meeting place for all stakeholders in the food ingredients industry and showcases the most diverse range of new and innovative ingredients and services. Events like Food Ingredients Europe are a perfect platform to bring the importance of sustainable sourcing to the attention of the world’s leading food and beverage suppliers. Reindert Dekker, Head of Marketing at UBM Live, organiser of Food Ingredients Europe (FiE): “The move of the industry to source sustainable palm oil is perceived as the right way forward by FIE and we have therefore decided to engage in a partnership with RSPO for our exhibition in Paris. RSPO is paving the way towards a more sustainable way of producing and sourcing palm oil – an important food ingredient in our sector.”

Darrel Webber, Secretary General at RSPO comments: “A significant increase of market commitment towards the uptake of sustainable palm oil is currently a top priority for RSPO. Our presence at key industry events as Food Ingredients Europe is of crucial importance in order to promote the growth and use of sustainable oil palm products.”

RSPO is fully committed to further promoting market uptake which is also shown by the launch of the RSPO Trademark which will boost consumer awareness and demand for sustainable palm oil products. Consumer goods manufacturers are working very hard to source sustainable palm oil ingredients for their products through complex palm oil supply chains but more is needed in order to transform the market to achieve 100% sustainable palm oil.

The aim of the partnership between Food Ingredients Europe and RSPO is to provide companies from the food and beverage industry with the right information and incentivize them to turn to certified sustainable palm oil. Through this partnership, Food Ingredients Europe demonstrates its leadership in offering innovative solutions for a more responsible and sustainable supply chain to its exhibitors and visitors.

About RSPO:

In response to the urgent and pressing global call for sustainably produced palm oil, the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) was formed in 2004 with the objective of promoting the growth and use of sustainable oil palm products through credible global standards and engagement of stakeholders. The seat of the association is in Zurich, Switzerland, while the secretariat is currently based in Kuala Lumpur with a satellite office in Jakarta.

RSPO is a not-for-profit association that unites stakeholders from seven sectors of the palm oil industry – oil palm producers, palm oil processors or traders, consumer goods manufacturers, retailers, banks and investors, environmental or nature conservation NGOs and social or developmental NGOs – to develop and implement global standards for sustainable palm oil.
Such multi-stakeholder representation is mirrored in the governance structure of RSPO such that seats in the Executive Board and project level Working Groups are fairly allocated to each sector. In this way, RSPO lives out the philosophy of the “roundtable” by giving equal rights to each stakeholder group to bring group-specific agendas to the roundtable, facilitating traditionally adversarial stakeholders and business competitors to work together towards a common objective and making decisions by consensus.
