Greiner Packaging is supplying handy and sustainable packaging for Parmentine’s new ready-to-eat potato dish.

The pre-washed potatoes are in a K3 cup that is wrapped in cardboard to reduce heat from contact with the hot potatoes, the company said.

The microwaveable plastic cup with cardboard wrap comes with a fork integrated into the lid, allowing consumption straight from the cup.

The cup is made out of polypropylene and the lid is made using amorphous PET. It has the capacity to hold 250g of potato and 25g of sauce.

Consumers will be able to see the product before buying, through a special window in the wrap.

Greiner Packaging K Europe sales director Kenneth Boldog said: “The cardboard and plastic combination makes our K3 cups very popular.

“The cups not only look and feel good, they also appeal to environmentally conscious consumers because of the reduced use of plastic.

“These advantages also tipped the scale for Parmentine.”

Parmentine’s potato snack is available in tomato basil and quark chives flavours in supermarkets across France and Germany, with plans to launch in the UK in the near future.

Greiner Packaging announced it will be offering injection moulding with in-mould labelling (IML) technology to its customers in the US.

American company WhiteWave Foods created a new cup using Greiner’s IML technology. Two injection moulding units, which were built with IML handling in Austria for production of the cup, are being transferred to the US in stages to the new Greiner packaging site in Pittston, Pennsylvania.
