Andy Clarke Takes Reins as IGD President
Andy Clarke, Chief Executive of Asda, will become President of IGD, the food and grocery research and training charity, on 1st January 2015. Andy Clarke has served as Vice-President of IGD for the last two years and succeeds Fiona Dawson, currently of Mars Chocolate UK and Global Retail. The President is the public face of IGD and Andy Clarke will serve in the role for two years.
Andy Clarke says: “I am delighted to take on the mantle of IGD President and continue the fantastic work that Fiona, Joanne and the team have delivered. In my 30 years in this industry I’ve never known a period as challenging and exciting as we’re currently in. The pace of change is phenomenal and the UK is leading the way in many areas. The IGD makes a real difference to our sector and to the UK economy – be it through our output, job creation or skills – and I’m hugely proud to have the opportunity to lead it.”
Joanne Denney-Finch, IGD Chief Executive, says: “I’m delighted to welcome Andy to the President’s role. He brings with him a wealth of experience from shop floor to top floor and as Vice-President, has already clearly demonstrated his passion and support for IGD, not least for our work on Feeding Britain’s Future and Working on Waste. Andy now takes the reins as President in what is set to be a very exciting year for IGD and our industry, as we focus on our core pillars of people development and working towards a secure and sustainable future, ultimately delivering the needs of the public. I’m hugely looking forward to working with him. I would also like to extend many thanks to our outgoing President Fiona Dawson, for what she has helped us achieve over the last two years.”
