Printpack’s Kutno plant has developed the triplex film stick packs for Aimia Foods’ powder products for brands including Weight Watchers.

The project came about because Aimia Foods had experienced problems with faulty and leaking stick packs caused by dry powder contamination in the seal.

After analysing why the existing packs were failing, Printpack came up with the new triplex film with a speciality polyethylene sealant layer for the new packs. The packs were then extensively trialled through the packing process.

Aimia Foods packaging manager Stephen Corbett said: “The previous stickpacks performed poorly during the packing process – the seals leaked, leading to complaints from retailers and consumers.

“The new packaging development has solved our stickpack leakage problems and Printpack provided us with technical support and excellent communications throughout the whole process.”

Printpack’s Europe key account manager Ian Thorne said: “Our aim with this project was to improve product performance, and we delivered a very complex specification that performs well and exceeds previous production standards”.

“Producing the packaging at Kutno means that Aimia Foods Limited can rely on security of supply, and because finished stocks are held locally the real lead time is now forty eight hours compared to five to six weeks.”
