NEW GREGGS GOSFORTH COMPLETED BY CLEGG SUPPORTS THE RISING SUCCESS OF BAKERY GIANT
SPECIALIST provider of food manufacturing facilities Clegg Food Projects has completed a multi-million pound contract to design and construct a cutting edge factory for leading bakery retailer Greggs.
Nationally-renowned Clegg Food Projects, which provides turnkey solutions for major food operations throughout the UK, has completed the design and construction of the new 90,000 sq ft Greggs bakery in Longbenton, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, which will provide Greggs with new modern and efficient manufacturing capacity to support its continued retail success.
The project is the latest in a long line of large-scale projects that Clegg has carried out for Greggs. The new Gosforth factory, close to the first ever Greggs shop in Gosforth High Street, will support the company’s rapid growth as it plans to expand its chain of 1500+ shops around the UK by a further 500 sites over the next few years.
Stephen Giltrap, managing director of Clegg Food Projects, said: “Greggs’ new Gosforth Park Bakery will replace its existing bakery and is close to other Greggs production and distribution facilities, which we have also designed and built for the company.”
Clegg Food Projects has provided a fully integrated design and construction service to assist Greggs in finding the best solutions to create a factory able to cope with the bakery’s ambitious growth, added Mr Giltrap.
The new facility has been specifically designed by Clegg to meet the needs of Greggs’ retail offering, to further increase its efficiency, product quality and innovation.
Mr Giltrap said: “This factory will be the 13th project we have carried out for Greggs in less than ten years. It is particularly rewarding to be providing bespoke design and build solutions on a key site in the area where the company originates.
“We have drawn upon our technical knowledge and practical experience of the food manufacturing sector to ensure we achieved the best possible outcome for Greggs.
“Clients value work that comes in on budget, on time, and is finished to a high standard, and we are always able to deliver service of this quality.”
Greggs’ Group production project manager Peter Boughton said: “We have developed an excellent working relationship with Clegg Food Projects over the past 10 years; this has meant that each new bakery or extension has incorporated lessons learnt from prior projects and from the latest technologies within the building industry.
“This approach has meant that our latest bakery has been built on time and within budget and features environmentally beneficial features, including; PV and solar energy systems and heat recovery from a central refrigeration system.”
